Backlink Strategy – Link Wheels

Backlink Strategy – Link Wheels Can Carry Your Site A Long Way!

Link Wheel Backlinks are indeed very popular and for many reasons.

There is quite often a debate among article marketers if they should not only write articles to backlink to their targeted website’s landing page but also backlink the articles they write for this purpose to strengthen them as well.

If you think about it if you need to backlink the article you are using to backlink your landing page, then do you have to backlink the article backlinking your article backlinking the landing page? (Is this a bit confusing?)

Personally I write articles to backlink to my targeted landing page and then just use RSS feeds and social bookmarks to strengthen my articles positioning in Google.

There is an exception to this rule.  Link Wheels are an outstanding tool for off page SEO to get good backlink juice to your landing pages.

Link wheels are a great tool you can use to not only backlink your landing page but also your articles used for this purpose.  It can be done in such a fashion to make it easy to accomplish both goals.

Before I go into further explanation here is a graphic I made to show a simple version of an open link wheel:

Simple Link Wheel

As you can see, this is a link wheel in its simplest version.  The arrows represent a backlink to the target it is pointed to.  It incorporates:

  • Six articles written with anchor text backlinks to the targeted landing page.
  • Five of the six articles are also giving backlinks to one of the other six articles.

It is considered advisable to always leave the wheel open, not connecting all the outer points of the wheels, as it makes it less identifiable by Google as a link wheel.

You also want to make sure you do not use link wheels exclusively for backlinking.

Make sure you continue with conventional backlinks as well!

Now you can obviously have far more than 6 articles in your link wheel.  I chose six to make it easier for the graphic.

There are many professional SEO websites selling link wheel services at a very high cost.  You do not need to pay these fees; it is quite simple to construct this yourself.

The best link wheels are considered those that use Web 2.0 Sites as their backlink sources.

Here is a link to an excellent list of some Web 2.0 sources you can use:

Personally, any link wheel that uses sites for the backlinks that are PR4 or above will do quite nicely.

Now, you can go with this as far as you want to go.  I personally use, again, RSS feeds and Social Bookmarks to strengthen articles that are in the wheel.

There are those that will build link wheels around each article used in the first stage of the link wheel.  Again, how far do you want to take it?

There are enough variations of link wheels to make anyone’s head spin.  Be creative and experiment!
