Increase PageRank – Improve PageRank Optimization
How to Improve Your Google Page Rank
Many who first start out in internet marketing confuse the two issues of PageRank and Search Engine Results Pages. PageRank (PR) is a means in which Google rates the quality or value of a site. Search Engine Result Pages (SERPS) is the positioning of your page in the results returned when an internet surfer searches for your keywords in a search engine.
Although the two terms are certainly by definition two separate entities, they are in my opinion very dependent on each other in an indirect relationship. What I mean by this is that the very methods in which you attempt to improve your SERPS will in turn assist you in your efforts to increase PageRank of your site and improve Google Page Rank for your property.
In researching the topic you can come across thousands of articles many of which differ in opinions as to how to improve Google Page Rank. Many will state point blank that to increase PageRank the one and only concern is the number and quality of backlinks to your property you are backlinking. Others will tell you that in order to increase PageRank you need to follow good SEO practices both on page and off page in addition to the issues of backlinking.
I read one article that quoted Matt Cutts from Google saying there were over 200 different factors which were considered when determining the Page Rank of a web property. This would lead me to believe there is far more involved in how to improve Google Page Rank than just backlinks.
Despite all the contradictions of the various articles one thing remains a common in all the articles I have read in my research on how to improve my Google Page Rank, backlinking SEO. Many disagree on other issues but all agree that certain factors remain critical.
To Increase PageRank You need:
- High volumes of backlinks
- High authority backlinks
- Properly constructed backlinks
- Backlinks from a variety of sources
With the understanding that to increase PageRank is dependent on many other issues in addition to the most critical issue, the number and quality of backlinks and relinking, a friend who is the owner of Affiliate Resources allowed me to share a chart that he came across with you. Jay is also a member of Wealthy Affiliate University and is a highly successful full-time internet marketing consultant.
Now this chart is not a “definitive guide” by any means. There are a lot of variables that need to be considered in addition to the data in the chart. However, what this chart does is show you a direct relationship on how much value a backlink will have originating from a high PR site versus a backlink from a low PR site. You want a mixture of links from all degrees of PR and properties but the backlinks from High PageRank sites with authority will give you far more “backlink juice” than those from low PR sites.
How to Improve Google Page Rank with High PR Backlinks

Google is very secretive about their PageRank algorithm and you will have a much better chance of finding out the secrets of KFC special recipes and McD’s special sauce than you will in finding out how Google determines PageRank or SERPS results. Those in charge of Google’s information security should be hired by our government to safeguard our intelligence agencies. I would feel safer than I do now.
The important thing to remember is that SERPS (your results in search engine results pages) is critical to your gaining exposure, traffic, and sales. PageRank (PR) is important when applied to the quality of backlinks you obtain to get good SERPS but good PageRank for your site or property does not in itself make you money, get you traffic, or provide you with sales.
So my advice would be to be concerned about PR only in your backlinking resources and worry about SERPS for your property because that is what is going to provide you with a successful campaign. I would prefer to have a site that ranks number one on page one of Google SERPS for a highly competitive keyword than to have a site that has a PR of 5 and gets no traffic because it is no where to be found in the SERPS.
